My name is CD Thayer.  I have been a Power Lineman most of my life.  I collect pole or tree climbers (also called hooks, gaffs, or spurs), and decided to start a page to show everyone what I've found.  The "page" has turned into three pages now.  I have included photos of climbers that belong to others as well as my own.  There are all types of climbers, including some made with rope or some other natural fiber.  There are no two entries alike on this site thus far, as far as I can determine.  I'm discovering more differences in old climbers all of the time, more than I thought there would be.  I will be adding photos here as I go along, and provide photo credits for each one.  I have several hooks collected so far, and hope to obtain more.  Some of them still need to be identified as to what manufacturer, era, and the intended use.  If you can provide any information from the photos that I show, or can provide photos and information of your climbers, please contact me at: CD .  I buy unusual old climbers, if you have any for sale, or,

I WOULD LIKE TO FEATURE PHOTOS OF YOUR UNUSUAL CLIMBERS AT THIS SITE!

Click on the Manufacturer name to take you to the climber photos.

Or use the links to the pages below.

Climbers A - I    Climbers J - Z

Watch for the "newcd.gif (883 bytes)" tag for the newest entries.

I'm off to get more photos.... (Got any?)

Many thanks to the great folks who have given me photos and information of their climbers for this site.

This site is provided as a public service by CD Thayer and friends.   Commercial site sponsorship in the form of banner advertising is available to pole or tree climber manufactures, distributors or retailers.

So far, Hit Counter other friends have come by to look.

A note about Reference Numbers "[Ref. No. X000Xx]"-  I use a simple system of assigning a reference number to each climber entry based on who submitted the entry.  If it is a CD Thayer entry, the number includes an "H" (for "Hook") as the leading letter in the reference number, and a "B" number at the end telling me which box I have them stored in.  If an entry is submitted by someone else, the number includes a "G" (for "Guest") as the leading letter.  The rest of the number is assigned by order of entry.  When asking specific questions about a climber, please use the reference number of the climber.  Currently, the Guest entries are as follows:
