CD & Bear's Cruiser
Rides 2005
Take a ride with us to see where
we've been lately!
Runs are listed newest first
from the top down.
(We don't always take photos,
but when there are some, click on an image for a larger view.)
Dec 31,
2005 - Lotto Run - Oklaunion, TX |
| The last ride of the year was
short, but just as much fun as any of the others for the year. We rode 30 miles
round-trip down to Oklaunion, TX to get a new Texas Lottery ticket for the month. We
were also scuffing the new tires on both bikes to help break them in for the upcoming
season. The temperature was 73 degrees F, with very little wind. We would have
rode longer, but we're having work done on our house, and needed to get back. |

Nov 13,
2005 - Lawton Toy Run - Lawton, OK |
| The Annual Lawton Toy Run was a big
success again, and we were able to be part of it. As members of one of the
sponsoring organizations, we took a food dish with us on the bikes, to add to the meal
that was served to the bikers that participated in the run. If you look closely at
the first few photos, you'll see a large Crock Pot strapped to the rear seat of the Harley
Davidson. Bear rode son Daniel's Harley, since see'd run the tires off of her
Marauder on the South Padre Run, and the new ones hadn't been received yet. At least that
was her excuse for taking out the Harley, and see's sticking to it! |

Oct
13-17, 2005 - Roar By The Shore - South Padre, TX |
| What we hope will turn out to be an
annual event, we returned to the Roar By The Shore South Padre Island Bike Fest for the
second year. The first leg of the journey took us to San Antonio, TX where we camped
overnight at the KOA Kampground. The City Bus service has a stop at the front gate
of the campground, which is a nice convenience if you want to go downtown to the River
Walk without having to drive and find parking. We probably could have done better
than the Spam for supper, but it got late on us. The second day, we rolled on into
South Padre, TX. This year, as last, our favorite part of the rally was the Mexico
Run to Nuevo Progreso, Mexico for the fiesta. And just like last year, we found the
margaritas to be of the finest quality. The people of Nuevo Progreso go out of their
way to throw a great fiesta. Back in South Padre, we gorged ourselves on fresh
shrimp at Dirty Al's Bar & Bait Shop, located right next to the Cameron County Park
where we camped again. The trip back included a stop for the night at the Belton, TX
KOA, and an overnight stop in Dallas, TX to see the kids. Bear about run the tires
off of her Marauder. |

23-25, 2005 - ABATE State Party - Ponca City, OK |
| Since Bear was feeling better from
her recent illness, and could take her breathing treatment machine with her for further
therapy, we decided to attend the ABATE of Oklahoma State Party & Swap Meet in Ponca
City, OK as planned. Seven members from the Lawton District 3 Chapter attended, and
had a great time keeping each other laughing. Cleo did good in the bike show, but we
all skipped the bike games, preferring to just watch and partake of refreshments.
The weather was good, the venue was excellent, and the host chapter, Three Sands of Ponca
City put on a great party. |

09-11, 2005 - Kids Home Run - Frederick, OK |
| This really isn't a run that CD
& Bear went on, but when the kids learned that Bear was suffering from anemia and
pneumonia, the ones in Dallas came up to help nurse her back to health. This was a
run for us instead of by us. When they weren't cooking, cleaning, or
otherwise waiting on Bear hand & foot, the kids got a chance to get out on their
brother's bike and in his new "redneck" pickup truck for a little play time
themselves. They were sure good help around here, and gave CD a break from the
dishes too. |

27-Sep 05, 2005 - Rally in the Rockies - Ignacio, CO |
| After missing the 4-Corners Rally
last year, we made it back for the third time in 4 years. Actually, since
Bear's folks live about 15 miles from Ignacio, it's always more of a "home
coming" than just another rally. We didn't even go into the rally grounds this
year, although we did shop the venders on main street and at the Casino. We got into
a big fire wood splitting project at Mom & Pop's place (Bear's parents), so setting in
chairs along main street in Ignacio watching rally goers was our chance to take a break.
We made a "drug run" to the historical Jackisch Drug Store in Pagosa to
pick up Mom & Pop's prescriptions one day for another break. We had a great time
going and while we were there, but Bear became ill at the end of the visit, making it a
long and hard trip back, at least for her. |

Aug 27,
2005 - Peanut Poker Run - Wellington, TX |
| The annual Peanut Festival in
Wellington Texas was the first stop on a run to the 4-Corners Rally in Colorado. We
had been at the Peanut Festival in 2002 for the poker run, but had missed it the last
couple of years. It's a great event, not only for the motorcycle activities, but for
the great fresh-cooked food that everyone brings to sell. We tanked up on tamales,
fajitas, menudo, and shaved ice before and after the poker run. This year, area
resident Leslie George was nice enough to lead us around the poker run route, with his
unique Boss Hoss and sidecar rig. We had a great day! |

their Second Annual "Do It In The Dark Poker Run and Party" at Geronimo,
OK. We missed this event last year, and were glad we got to attend this time. |

Jul 4,
2005 - Bean Run - Childress, TX |
| The folks down in Childress, TX had
a 4th of July celebration that included a motorcycle Bean Run (like a poker run, but you
collect pinto beans). We completed the run, but CD's bike "Blaze" ran out
of juice in the battery again, so we returned home early to make sure we got there before
dark (no headlight). |

Jun
24-26, 2005 - High Society Run - Dallas, TX |
| It was time to make a run down to
Dallas to see the kids and catch up on what had been happening in their lives. CD's
bike "Blaze" was still having charging problems, and sure enough, it quit right
in the middle of downtown Dallas. The sidewalk was the only place to get out of the
traffic, and it happened to be across the street from the Ralph Lauren store. At
least we were in "good" company. We finally got Blaze push-started and got
back into the proper side of town for a great backyard cookout and visit. |

2005 - BACA Run4Kids Run - Frederick, OK |
| The Southwest Oklahoma chapter of
BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) held their 1st Annual Run4Kids in Frederick, OK, right
across the street from our house. We normally have to ride to an event, but this one
came to us, and we enjoyed the poker run and the day's activities. |

May 20,
2005 - Hit The Road Run - Frederick, OK |
| The last day of CD's employment
with the power company after 19+ years, was May 20th. It was time to "hit the
road" and move back home to Frederick, OK where we had raised our family. Our
modest little house was in need of some renovation, so the bikes got parked for a while as
the work progressed. We snuck out every now and then for a short ride around town,
but most of our time was spent setting up a new bike work/storage area. |

2005 - ChillChaser & Benefit Run - Lawton, OK |
| The ABATE of Oklahoma Lawton Dist 3
Annual ChillChaser included a benefit auction this year for one of the members recently
involved in a serious vehicle accident. The event was great and turned out to be a
total success, although our camera was acting up and the photos turned out poorly. |

Mar 27,
2005 - 5th Annual Run Nowhere Run - Nowhere, OK |
| Once again, we were able to make
our "special" Easter Sunday run out to Nowhere, OK to have a picnic. The
tradition started in 2001 when we didn't have anywhere to ride to on a beautiful Easter
Sunday, and decided to ride to "Nowhere", a bait shop and convenience store at
Ft Cobb Lake, OK. This year, we prepared a simple picnic of hotdogs, easter eggs,
& smores. |

2005 - Parade Run - OKC, OK |
| The Oklahoma City Motorcycle Expo
happened to get scheduled at the same time as the annual St Patrick's Day Parade, and in
the same part of downtown OKC. After an early lunch at Long John Silver's in
Chickasha, OK on the way up, we were pleasantly surprised to ride into town and find
ourselves arriving just in time to view the large parade. After the parade, we
attended to motorcycle expo as planned, and then stopped by JR's Bar & Grill in south
OKC on the way out of town. |

Feb 5,
2005 - Bronc Run - Marlow, OK |
| The Southwest Oklahoma Chapter of
the Southern Cruisers had a get-together to talk about the upcoming riding season, and
Bear thought it was a good time to take Bronc out for some exercise. Bronc came to us
in December 2004 from Denver Colorado, and had been parked for a considerable time without
being ridden. He runs kind of rough, like riding a bucking horse, while we give the fuel
additive time to soften the gunk in his fuel system. Bronc is a twin to Bear's
primary bike, "Bruiser". |
