We are currently in the process of annual line inspection, and this year we are conducting the first-ever GPS Mapping and Computerized Field Inventory of the WFEC System in Oklahoma, Texas, & Kansas. It is a new process to me, and I am having to learn some new technology. We are using the Trimble Pathfinder Office software, TDC-1 GIS Data Collector, and the Pathfinder®ProXRS System. Go to the Trimble Navigation Website here:
After the data is collected, we use ArcView Software from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) to manage the data into the finished product. Additional data is "layered" in to provide landmarks and identification data to our line features. Go to the ESRI ArcView Website
here:
Here are a few samples of the current WFEC project:
If you're involved in a similar GPS project, I'm interested in comparing information about the progress and success of mapping powerlines using GPS data collection. Please send your correspondence to: CD Thayer at: OlPoop@cdthayer.com Thanks. |
